#Dangerous #conditions #minors #proper #oversight
By now you have probably heard of “the kid who died on the inner tube”. his name is christian garner. he was a son, grandson, brother, boyfriend, and so much more. he was full of life! he loved everything except pickles and the dogs being in his bed. while reading what his own community says about him on social media is truly heart breaking. seeing people say “he chose to get on the tube”, “what did he expect?”, and even “darwin award goes to..”, is heart breaking on so many levels. what bothers me the most is that people in the community love to categorize him as a “truck meet kid”. he was not a “truck meet kid” in any way. he just started going to the meets recently. he always tried to see the best in people so he didn’t realize how bad of an environment it really was down there. the kids at the meet are heavily drinking (underage and also driving after drinking), doing drugs, pulling out guns, and having no care for their own lives but especially not other peoples lives. if you are a parent of one of the kids who regularly hangs out at wahoos or even bayfront, have them stop. if you are a person of influence of the city of pensacola, bring this to their attention. have the cops watch over these kids, hold them accountable for their actions, and even shut down a meet if you have to. unfortunately, christian has become an example of what can happen at meets. i want to help prevent this so it doesn’t happen to another family. the day after christians passing, when the mayor was asked about a fence being put around the pond, he stated “it’s not a priority at this moment”. when will it be a priority? will another kid have to die? will more people have to feel the emptiness that is left after their persons passing? what is our priority of the city of pensacola? keeping our town “beautiful” for our tourists? if so, i’m horrified to say that this is my town and that this is the people who are in my community. this has been going on for quite some time now, i ask that you sign this petition so that i can show our city “leaders” that our community CARES about young lives, unlike them!
