"Animal Shelter Temporarily Closed to Public
Effective immediately, we are temporarily closing the Animal Shelter to the public to ensure the safety and health of our animals, employees, volunteers, and visitors. Animal Control will continue to respond to animal emergencies; however, adoptions and owner reclaims must be scheduled by calling (865) 425-3423. We will announce when we will reinstate services and reopen the shelter at a later time."
It is now August 2022 and the shelter is still closed to the public. If you would like the shelter to be open to the public again, please sign this petition so we can present it to the Chief of Police, Mayor, City Manager, City Council, and anyone else who might be involved in the decision for the shelter to remain closed to the public.
If you have additional questions, please direct them to the Oak Ridge Police Department during regular business hours by calling (865) 425-3504 or the non-emergency number (865) 425-4399.
Many are concerned that remaining closed to the public is affecting the number of adoptions and the ability to reclaim pets as the staff cannot answer and return phone calls all day in addition to their other duties.
