Parents of Edison Girls Varsity Basketball team were recently told that Edison Senior High School (Alexandria, VA/Fairfax County Public Schools) Principal Pamela Brumfield and Director of Student Athletics Greg Dombrowski decided to end Coach Dianne Lewis’ decorated 22-year tenure as the Varsity Girls’ Basketball Coach. Coach Lewis has not only accumulated a remarkable record of 445 wins and 99 losses, but she has positively influenced the lives of countless young ladies. Her reputation includes coaching with care, bringing multiple championships to Edison, and has even reached the national level with Coach Lewis being selected three times to represent our country as an assistant coach for USA Basketball. This heartbreaking blindsided firing of Coach Lewis came with no explanation to her, the players, parents or the community and we refuse to accept this reckless decision. The impact that Coach Lewis have on the girls is immeasurable. Amongst the trials these young ladies have to face in school, culture, social media, etc., Coach Lewis has been a constant and safe place that has allowed them to flourish mentally, emotionally and physically. Many girls are going into their senior year hoping to play basketball on a college level and are now uncertain about their athletic future. The school could not (or would not) tell Coach Lewis nor the parents what she did wrong or why this decision was made.
