Save our Prairie Park Nature Center! Thursday, July 7, the Lawrence City Manager proposed that Prairie Park Nature Center be permanently closed and that the facility be leased for other businesses. The City Commission Meeting on Tuesday, July 12, will have the Nature Center up on the chopping block. Having such short notice on the proposal to close the Nature Center does not appear to be accidental. Any public opinions and comment could save the Nature Center which has been serving the Lawrence community for 23 years. If you would like to help prevent the Nature Center’s closure you can by speaking your opinion to the City Commission at the meeting on July 12. You can join the meeting in person, zoom the meeting, or email/write a letter to the City Commissioners to have your voice heard. The best way to guarantee a chance to speak is to attend the meeting in person. Prairie Park Nature Center is a family center and kid’s opinions and questions do matter. There is no age limit on public commenting and the more voices the better. In this case, every voice counts!
A link with info on where and how to attend the City Commission Meeting is provided below. If you choose to send a letter or email, the deadline is by noon on July 12.
