We are concerned animal loving citizens of Los Angeles who believe that fire safety is of the utmost importance in any business, but especially those that involve animals. We therefore petition the Los Angeles & California Municipal Code to require that all animal-related businesses have fire suppression or fire sprinklers in order to protect the animals in enclosed spaces.
As we all know, fires can be very dangerous and can spread quickly, posing a serious threat to animals who are confined in small spaces. In many cases, animals are unable to escape from fires and end up suffering from smoke inhalation, burns, and sadly death.
In light of the devastating fires that have ravaged California in recent years, it is imperative that we do everything in our power to protect our animal companions. Fire sprinklers or suppression systems are proven to be effective in saving lives and property, and we believe that they should be mandatory in all businesses that house animals.
Further, as recent as September 2022, a cat boarding facility caught fire and 17 cats perished! This tragedy could have been avoided had the city required fire suppression system/sprinklers in the facility.
We believe that this is a common-sense measure that will help to protect the lives of animals, and we urge Los Angeles and California to adopt it as soon as possible to protect our pets and fur friends.
Animals are often helpless in the face of fire, and their lives should not be put at risk because of lax safety standards.
