#Nazareth #Academy #should #objectifying #female #students.
Last Friday, September 17, there was a mandatory assembly called to speak with all the female students attending Nazareth Academy, about the skirts they require students to wear as a part of uniforms. The presenters used examples like, “if the staff wore a crop top to work would you guys respect them? No, you wouldn’t.” Implicating that they do not respect students, if their skirts are worn shorter than the schools standard. It is now Monday, September 19, as of now staff members have been scouring the school, seeking out girls, and dress coding them. This ‘movement’ Nazareth is trying to invoke is unnecessary and detrimental. Understandably, short skirts may be a problem but coming in full force and disrespectfully attacking students is not okay, shaming them in the hallways, making them late to class, giving them a dress code violation for it being a centimeter off is too much. Also, to note, only giving students a weekend to get the hem removed or buy a new skirt, is not realistic. (This petition is not meant to be harmful in any way, and probably won’t change anything, it is just to be advocated as voices being heard.)
