I am Yi Qu, a Fort Lee resident, a fellow neighbor, a parent, and a working mother.  My husband and I love raising our four-year-old and 5 months old girls in Fort Lee.  We like the recreation center, community center, and the library — all of these facilities and their programs support and serve the children, the elderly, and families.  Every summer we look forward to visits to the wading pools and spray park — it is one of my children’s summer highlights and memories.

However, as full-time working parents, we are unavailable to take our children to the pool during the weekdays.  We rely on summer camp to help with childcare during weekdays.  By the time we pick up our kids after work, the pools & spray park would have all closed by 4:45 pm. The current 10:30 am to 4:45 pm operating hours of the pool and spray park severely curtail working families from utilizing the pools and enjoying the water on weekdays.

We respectfully seek your support for this petition to request for the Fort Lee Recreation Department to extend the pools & spray park hours of operation to 6 pm on weekdays.

Also for reference, the operation hours for other NJ public pools/spray parks.

1. Edgewater Veterans Field Park Spray Park closes at 8 pm.
2. North Bergen James J. Braddock Park Spray Park closes at 8 pm.
3. Union City Michael Leggiero Music Water Park closes at 7:45 pm.
