Mount Vernon is a small city with 3 high schools, 1 middle school, and 12 elementary schools. It serves over 8,000 students. 

Currently there are 2 charter schools housed within the city limits that take away money from the public school budget. The budget provides curriculum, materials, and improvements to buildings. Over $1 Million dollars is taken from the MVCSD and given to these charter schools that boast “free tuition” but it’s the tax dollars providing their funding. Every year we vote on no increase school taxes but we cannot allow the budget to be dwindled down further by schools not affiliated with the progress of the city. They are not community schools. 

Please sign this petition to keep Ubuntu Prep Charter School, which is a generic HS, out of our district and away from the MV school budget. Parents, it is time to advocate for the whole. Let us find our students and let them know we are fighting for them.
