The busing system is a critical part of school operations. Especially in Mentor, one of the largest school districts in the state of Ohio. Yet the only information a Mentor parent has when their children use this system is a bus number and a target pickup and dropoff time. These times can fluctuate, sometimes significantly and especially during staffing shortages. This in turn can result in our children waiting alone in the dark or in bad weather for a late bus, parents being late to work or other commitments, and bus drivers feeling stressed without a way to communicate their status. Enabling every Mentor bus with tracking technology would support continuing to prioritize our students, staff, and families, and their safety and well-being. As the body responsible for school district policy-making, goal-setting, and prioritizing, the school board has the influence to make bus technology a key agenda item.
