As most residents of Round Lake are unaware, there is a proposal that is under Board review to build a year round ski hill on the corner of Route 120 and Fairfield Road in Round Lake. The developer of the project also runs the dump that is located on Wilson Road and Route 120. The proposal that was submitted lacks MANY details and guarantees no accountability for the developer if he decides to not finish the project. There will be roughly 150 trucks running through our area for 10-12 YEARS with supposed "clean" materials that only the developer will monitor. The traffic study that was done did not include the development phase and insists that the ski hill will not impact traffic to the area, yet the site is being called out that it will put Round Lake on the map.
My family lives on West Townline Road which will be the new entrance for the proposed development. I have 3 children that regularly ride their bikes up and down our little street. We were informed last night that the developer will also construct a turnaround at the end of Townline Road....RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. With 150 trucks a day - how will we even exit our driveway? For the next 10 years, my kids will not be able to leave the driveway for fear of them getting hit by one of these dump trucks bringing hazardous materials to my street that we will get to breathe in.
There was a board meeting last night where the Mayor and Trustees heard the proposal and the public was given the opportunity to speak. Roughly 50 people went up and asked questions and stated their major concerns with the project. The board looked disinterested the entire time and not one board member took a single note. It would appear that the board does not care what their constituents have to say about their concerns. I fear that the board is only seeing dollar signs and not considering the impacts to the residents and community of Round Lake, not to mention neighboring villages and all of Lake County. This project has been in the works for a year and there has been NO COMMUNICATION to the Round Lake residents. The truth is Round Lake does not want anyone to know about it until it is too late to do anything. I strongly urge you to do the research, ask the questions, stand with the residents that are saying NO to this project.
The board will be voting on this topic in the August 15th meeting at 7pm. We need to stop this project before Round Lake becomes home to another dump site that will be an eyesore for years to come.
